Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
About the Test
The test takes an average of 5–10 minutes. Because Traitora is adaptive, it ends automatically as soon as sufficient measurement accuracy is reached. That typically means 15–25 questions – far fewer than the 60–240 questions of classic personality tests.
Yes, Traitora is completely free. There are no hidden costs, no premium version, and no paywall before your results. The test is funded through Google AdSense advertising – via the ads you see on the page.
No. Traitora requires no sign-up, email address, or registration. You can start the test immediately – anonymously and without an account.
Traitora is currently available in four languages: German, English, French, and Spanish. All questions and answers were developed in each language – not simply machine-translated. You switch the language using the selector at the top left of the homepage.
Yes, you can repeat the test as many times as you like. Because the algorithm is adaptive and may select different questions each time, results can vary slightly – especially if you're in a different mood or answer certain questions more honestly.
If your results differ significantly between two sessions, this may indicate that your answers are strongly mood-dependent, or that you rate certain traits differently depending on your state of mind.
That is the core principle of the adaptive test: if your answers are very clear and consistent, the algorithm quickly achieves high measurement accuracy – and the test is shorter. If your answers send mixed signals or many traits land around the middle range, the algorithm needs more questions to resolve uncertainty.
About Your Results
The percentage for each trait shows how strongly that trait is expressed in you. 0% means very low, 100% means very high. Most people land in the mid-range (30–70%) for most traits.
You also see a measurement accuracy – that shows how confident the algorithm is about that value. High accuracy means your answers sent very clear, consistent signals for that trait.
No. All traits are context-dependent. High impulsivity can be an advantage in creative professions and a challenge in safety-critical roles. Low risk-taking may be a blessing for an accountant and an obstacle for an entrepreneur.
View your profile as an objective description of your personality – not as a rating. There is no "perfect" profile.
Accuracy depends on the number of questions answered and the consistency of your answers. Generally: the clearer and more consistent your answers, the more precise the result. An adaptive IRT-based test is more precise than a classic test with the same number of questions.
Keep in mind: no personality test – however good – can capture the full complexity of a human personality. Treat the result as a useful approximation, not as an absolute truth.
There is no built-in share function yet. You can take a screenshot of your result. The result is not saved – if you leave the page or refresh it, it is gone. Take a screenshot before leaving the page!
About Privacy & Technology
No. The entire test runs in your browser (client-side). Your answers are not sent to our servers, not stored, and not analysed. We do not know who you are or what you answered.
The only things stored locally in your browser (localStorage) are your language preference and theme setting – no answers or results.
Traitora is free – development and operation are funded through Google AdSense advertising. We have no influence over the content of the ads displayed. Google's own privacy policies apply to the delivery of ads.
IRT is a psychometric theory that describes how a person's response to a question relates to their underlying personality trait. Each question has parameters like difficulty and discrimination, which determine how much information it provides.
Traitora uses IRT to calculate after every answer which question next would yield the highest information gain. More details are on our IRT explanation page.
Yes, Traitora is fully mobile-optimised and works on smartphones and tablets just as well as on desktop computers. No app installation is required – the test runs directly in your browser.
About Personality Psychology
Yes – with an important caveat. Personality traits are latent constructs: they cannot be directly observed, but can be inferred through systematic observation of behaviour and preferences. That is the principle behind all personality tests.
No test measures personality perfectly – but a good adaptive test like Traitora can provide surprisingly precise estimates when the questions are carefully constructed.
Yes and no. Research shows that personality traits are very stable over short periods, but can change slowly over decades – especially through significant life events, experiences, and deliberate personal development.
Day-to-day behaviour varies with mood and context – but that is not a change in personality itself, merely normal human experience. If you take Traitora today and again in three years, you will see similar but not identical results.
Yes, in several important ways. Traitora uses adaptive question selection (no fixed question set), outputs continuous scores rather than types, and shows measurement accuracy per trait. Compared to the MBTI it is more scientifically grounded; compared to the Big Five it is more efficient and adaptive.
